Current Beat Priorities

  1. To reduce ASB arising from young people gaining access to maisonettes and high rise apartment buildings in the St Peters neighbourhood, during school hours and evenings
  2. To reduce ASB in and around Maidstone Road and surrounding streets, linked to rivalry between groups of local young people.
  3. To reduce ASB including street drinking in and around Prebend Gardens.

Spinney Hill Park Police Station

Spinney Hill Park police station is located on the edge of Spinney Hill Park in the Highfields area of Leicester.

Close to the former Asfordby Street police station, the police station is best approached from East Park Road and is situated close to its crossroads with St Saviour's Road.

Leicestershire Constabulary provide a 24-hour policing service but there may be times when you need to go into a police station.

Whilst we try hard to make sure that the opening hours are kept to, there may be occasions when, due to operational reasons, it may be necessary to change them.

During opening hours, local policing units can be contacted by calling (0116) 222 2222.

  • Inspector Shane O'neill
    Inspector Shane O'Neill is the new commander for Spinney Hill Park Local Policing Unit. Inspector Shane O'Neill joined Leicestershire Constabulary in 1997 and has been an operational police officer in various roles across the Force's City Basic Command Unit (BCU). These roles have included time spent as a local police officer and neighbourhood officer at Welford Road Local Policing Unit (LPU) before being promoted to sergeant. Inspector O'Neill was then posted to Mansfield House LPU and worked within the City 'Community Safety Bureau' before being involved in the implementation of the Interagency Community Safety Bureau aspects of the 101 service. On promotion to Inspector he took on an Operational Command Inspector role covering the Leicester City area and all six LPUs including Spinney Hill Park. Inspector O'Neill feels privileged to be the new LPU Commander at Spinney Hill Park and looks forward to continuing to deliver the high standards of neighbourhood policing already present. He feels tackling anti-social behaviour and reducing crime in our communities must be developed even further. "I feel it is important to ensure the policing priorities of the area are representative of the needs of all our neighbourhoods and that by working with partner agencies and community groups we make them better places to live and work. By making sure we consult regularly with local people and listen to their concerns and feedback we make sure we are accessible as part of the community."   • robbery at the Jet service station on St Peters Road, Leicester
    Officers from Spinney Hill local policing unit have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace following an armed robbery at the Jet service station on St Peters Road, Leicester. At around 7.45pm on Friday March 9, 2007 a man was caught on the garages CCTV camera threatening the cashier with what was believed to be a small handgun, demanding money from the till. He managed to steal a quantity of cash and cigarettes and made off on foot turning left as he came out of the store.
  • Distraction burglary at The Dove public house on Downing Drive in Evington
    Officers from Leicestershire Constabulary have released CCTV images of three men they are trying to trace after a distraction burglary at The Dove public house on Downing Drive in Evington. At around 8am on Saturday March 10, 2007 the licensee opened the door to a man who wanted to discuss some intended building work on the pub car park. While he was distracted away from the door by the man, two other men entered the premises and stole a substantial amount of cash.
  • University Road - Street Robbery - Monday May 14, 2007 10:45am

    The incident happened around 10.45am on Monday May 14, 2007 as the victim was walking along University Road towards Victoria Park. As he neared the War Memorial on Victoria Park, he was approached by two men who began to make conversation with him.

    One of the men punched the victim before stealing his Sony Ericsson W850I mobile phone. The men then made off towards University Road.

    The victim attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary receiving stitches to an injury to his mouth.

    Police have issued a CD fit of the man that assaulted the victim. Officers hope that someone will recognise this man and contact them.

    He is described as being either black or of dual heritage, aged between 18 and 20-years-old, between 5'9" and 5'10" tall and of medium build. He had short black hair, was wearing a light grey hooded top and possibly a cap.

    The second man is described as being Asian, aged between 18 and 20-years-old, between 5'7" and 5'10" tall and of slim build. He also had short black hair and was wearing a light grey jacket.

    PC James Willoughby from the City Core Crime Team said: "We're keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw the direction the men took after the robbery.  

    "Did you see two men matching the description acting suspiciously in the area at this time in the morning or do you know the identities of these men? If so we'd urge you to get in touch.

    "Any information you have could assist with our enquiries and prove vital to our investigation."

Year End Crime Statistics for Spinney Hill Park LPU

These have just been released and there is plenty of good news.

Total Crime has reduced by 280 to 5763 offences. That means 280 fewer victims of crime.

The details show that theft of and from vehicles have both reduced by 35 to 526 offences with an increase in detected offences from 30 to 81.

There was a slight increase in robbery, up 6 to 228 offences, with a similar small increase in dwelling burglary from 357 to 377 offences.

The detection rate for burglary doubled from 29 to 58 detected offences.

Violent crime reduced significantly, from 1689 to 1465 offences, with 551 of these offences being detected.

The aim for the next 12 months is to continue to reduce the number of crimes and increase the number of detections. We will do that, with your help.
