Inconsiderate and illegal car parking in St Peters

Inconsiderate parking in Taurus close St Peters leicester

The Highway Code prohibits parking what we often witness on a daily basis in Taurus Close and many other parts of St Peters.

Examples given include blocking or partially blocking pavements and also on or close to a bend in the road.

Leicester City Council for far too long have permitted this practice.

They occasionally send the traffic wardens into the neighbourhood just to put in an appearance, issue the most fleeting flurries of tickets you can imagine and then go away again.

Why is it the case when the neighbourhood has the consistent problem with parking on pavements, yellow lines and other prohibited areas that it actually does have, does it take a specific request to get a warden up here.

Leicester City Council needs to put in place a dedicated traffic warden team over a prolonged period in this neighbourhood to deal with this issue.

Cost?... Trust me... if you wake up and take a look here you will see that the problem is so bad that once you start to issue the tickets it will actually be self financing.

The local labour party said they would deal with this issue so now that they are in office, let us see you match your words with some concrete sustained and decisive action. Lets us see you match policy with actual strategy that makes a difference on the ground in real terms. Or were you merely just talking a good line like your predecessors.

The highway code in part says.

  • DO NOT park your vehicle or trailer on the road where it would endanger, inconvenience or obstruct pedestrians or other road users.

  • DO NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs, the visually impaired and people with prams or pushchairs.

Residents should ensure both their own vehicles and the vehicles used by those visiting them are not parked inconsiderately or illegally.

Inconsiderate parking in oxendon street St Peters leicesterPedestrians in St Peters all too often have to make a choice between cleaning the side of inconsiderately parked vehicles with their clothing as they squeeze by or to walk on the road.

Serious effects of bad parking

  • Causes problems for emergency vehicles, particularly fire engines and ambulances to reach their destination.
  • Crime has increased in the areas that appear more chaotic and unmanaged.
  • Increased pedestrian accident numbers and the accident risks have increased because of bad parking.

The "footpaths" are for feet that is why they are called "Footpaths"

If you can not park legally or considerately close to your homes then quite simply you should park further away. It is not acceptable to inconvenience all pedestrians for you own convenience.
